					A ‘must see’ and a great lesson in social history. It was an excellent tour which we thoroughly enjoyed. We’d heard a lot about the tunnels but seeing the scale of the them and the work done by the amazingly dedicated volunteers was awe inspiring.  Our guide, Clare, was so proficient and knowledgeable and we were given plenty of time to look around and absorb the information. She was relaxed and very friendly. Without the volunteers places like this would be lost forever.

						Fantastic and informative Great tour Tom was very informative and happy to answer all questions.

					An engineering marvel I’m not sure any written review will ever do justice to the experience of actually setting foot in the Williamson tunnels. My wife and I both live in Liverpool, and now we are retired we have more time to visit our city and a visit to Williamson tunnels was always on our list. We are so glad we have done it now. My only disappointment is that such a wonderful treasure in our city is not funded by the council or some sort of trust. It is all down to donations. Mandy passed on her local knowledge of the area and the tunnels making the trip even more enjoyable.

						An engineering marvel I’m not sure any written review will ever do justice to the experience of actually setting foot in the Williamson tunnels. From the enormity of the vast tunnels to the enthusiastic and infectious commentary of the knowledgeable guide Mandy. It was all unmissable. My wife and I both live in Liverpool, and now we are retired we have more time to visit our city and a visit to Williamson tunnels was always on our list. We are so glad we have done it now. My only disappointment is that such a wonderful treasure in our city is not funded by the council or some sort of trust. It is all down to donations. Mandy passed on her local knowledge of the area and the tunnels making the trip even more enjoyable.

						Williamson tunnels tour I had a fantastic time visiting the Williamson tunnels. Tom our guide was a fountain of information and very friendly and welcoming.

The tunnels themselves have been incredibly restored and the tour is very immersive.

Would highly recommend to anyone who has even a fleeting interest in history.

						Well worth the visit We were recommended this tour by friends who had done it, and it didn’t disappoint. 					Amazing experience We went on a tour of the Williamson tunnels today and it was absolutely amazing. There was only the 2 of us with our tour guide, Tom, and he was so friendly and really informative, he really knew his stuff!

It was amazing to see and hear about, it took roughly 2 hours and 40 minutes but it went so quick because we enjoyed it so much.

The work they have put in to making these tours possible is unreal and we are extremely grateful for that.

I wish they were given the permissions and also funding needed for them to carry on the amazing work they are doing.

Thankyou so much again to Tom for such a brilliant day.

Would definitely recommend a visit and will be returning

						Amazing experience We went on a tour of the Williamson tunnels today and it was absolutely amazing. There was only the 2 of us with our tour guide, Tom, and he was so friendly and really informative, he really knew his stuff!

It was amazing to see and hear about, it took roughly 2 hours and 40 minutes but it went so quick because we enjoyed it so much.

The work they have put in to making these tours possible is unreal and we are extremely grateful for that.

I wish they were given the permissions and also funding needed for them to carry on the amazing work they are doing.

Thankyou so much again to Tom for such a brilliant day.

						Fascinating experience I had long wanted to visit the tunnels so I decided to join  one of the tours as part of the Heritage Open Days. Our guide was Tom, who was very knowledgeable about the history of the tunnels. It was a fascinating experience into a lesser known part of Liverpool`s history.

					Great time at 39 Mason Street, Edge Hill L7 3EW ! We read their good instructions to get here, and our Uber driver (£7.92 from Waterfront ) brought us to the door.

We had to wait for others who DID NOT READ the message properly!!



It was a very interesting visit, and we can certainly recommend.

Tom was our guide, who explained very thoroughly about the tunnels.

					Great and informative City History. Amazing trip today with 14 members of the Boys Brigade from within the Liverpool Battalion.

It’s amazing when you find out so much more than you knew about our own city.

Tour was well run with informative guides and are a credit to what should be a Listed Site of Major Historical Importance.

Should be better funded so that the volunteers can do more exploration and add to the wealth of history they have already discovered.

						Great and informative City History. Amazing trip today with 14 members of the Boys Brigade from within the Liverpool Battalion.

It’s amazing when you find out so much more than you knew about our own city.

Tour was well run with informative guides and are a credit to what should be a Listed Site of Major Historical Importance.

Should be better funded so that the volunteers can do more exploration and add to the wealth of history they have already discovered.

					Superb historical excavations What a brilliant experience guided by the very knowledgeable Tom. What he doesn't know about the tunnels and the history isn't worth knowing. We only experienced the Paddington excavation which is probably less than one tenth of the whole system. Will definitely be booking on the main tour. The amount of discarded artifacts from the Victorian era onwards was fascinating. Well done to all involved. We even discovered that my wife is related to William Boote, the grocer who occupied several of the Williamson buildings!

Tom, our guide, was very passionate and great at story telling. Friendly and welcoming, any questions asked were answered! Would recommend!

					A visit to these amazing tunnels is a must if you're visiting Liverpool - but do book early! A deceptively plain entrance leads you into an amazing world of subterranean wonder! Descending through the original cellars, you soon realise this is no ordinary underground experience; intricate brickwork soon changes to solid sandstone walls as you descend the 82 steps to the lowest level; a 60 foot high chamber. We were met by Mike who was friendly as was all the volunteers who manage the the Williamson tunnels.

I recommend anyone interested in local history and how folk lived around the Napoleanic wars and after, should not miss this tour when visiting Liverpool. A great shout out to Mike our highly enthusiastic and dedicated volunteer and the work that has been done. He made it a delightful 2 hours. Top stars to all involved.

						Excellent way to spend an afternoon Excellent trip and a very engaging and informed guide (Mike) who brought the whole trip to life. Incredible that the network has been built and now being saved due to the hard work of volunteers. Incredible part of Liverpool's heritage.

I don't want to spoil any more of the story, as the guide will tell you about the history but the volunteers have a lot of passion and dedication and it shows!

					Fantastic experience What an amazing time we had visiting the tunnels. 

I visited with my 7 year old son, we got a taxi from the city centre that dropped us outside. We were shocked to see a standard detached row of houses lining one side of the road. We were greeted by a lovely man that turned out to be Tony our tour guide. Walked into the cabin to be greeted by other members of the team. Staff were all really friendly and welcoming. Drinks are available for a small donation and there’s a very clean (cleanest ever) portaloo! We were given a hard hat and hi vis. While walking to the starting point Tony was very knowledgeable telling us all about the history of the road. 

We entered the tunnels and the history was fascinating. Tony was thorough and patient (even with odd questions coming from my son!) 

Absolutely fascinating and it was all for free. The whole place is run by volunteers. They rely solely from donations. We visited Liverpool for the weekend and we definitely saved the best until last. This was the best attraction of the weekend. If you love history then this is a must, make sure to book in an advance. I emailed to book and got a prompt reply from Mike. Was sorted within no time. 

Would recommend this place to anyone who is able to walk freely and completely mobile.

I visited with my 7 year old son, we got a taxi from the city centre that dropped us outside. We were shocked to see a standard detached row of houses lining one side of the road. We were greeted by a lovely man that turned out to be Tony our tour guide. Walked into the cabin to be greeted by other members of the team. Staff were all really friendly and welcoming. Drinks are available for a small donation and there’s a very clean (cleanest ever) portaloo! We were given a hard hat and hi vis. While walking to the starting point Tony was very knowledgeable telling us all about the history of the road. 

We entered the tunnels and the history was fascinating. Tony was thorough and patient (even with odd questions coming from my son!) 

Absolutely fascinating and it was all for free. The whole place is run by volunteers. They rely solely from donations. We visited Liverpool for the weekend and we definitely saved the best until last. This was the best attraction of the weekend. If you love history then this is a must, make sure to book in an advance. I emailed to book and got a prompt reply from Mike. Was sorted within no time. 

Would recommend this place to anyone who is able to walk freely and completely mobile.

					Friends of Williamson’s Tunnels tour I found this to be a fascinating tour and our guide Tony was very interesting to listen to as he guided us around the tunnels (quarries). 						Friends of Williamson’s Tunnels tour I found this to be a fascinating tour and our guide Tony was very interesting to listen to as he guided us around the tunnels (quarries). It was fascinating to see all of the pieces that had been reclaimed from when the tunnels were filled with Liverpool’s rubbish and hear little anecdotes about them. Thank you all for such an amazing day out Went today with a group of friends, it was an impromptu trip out, we're all local to the area and to find such a hidden gem so close to home is unbelievable , our tour Guide Tom was very thorough and really give us a great experience of the tunnels! Our small group all felt that our tour had opened their eyes not only about the work that the Friends continue to do , but also a rare insight  into a part of Livepools historical social history which is often overlooked. A group of 12 of us visited to explore the subterranean architectural spaces. The Friends of Williamson's Tunnels organised a bespoke tour for us across 2 different sites. We looked at the banqueting hall and the cathedral like 4 story deep quarry spaces. Our tour guide was Tom, and he was so incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about the history and the rediscovery of the tunnels (being one of the volunteers that helped to unearth the spaces for the public) 



This would be great for anyone local and visitors to the city who want a truly Liverpool Experience.  Its damp down there and there are staircases to descend, (so be sure to wear sturdy shoes and check accessibility requirements) but this all adds to the experience!

						Great visit to the tunnels, the history and weirdness combined makes a trip worthwhile.

Still very much a work in progress, the kids were entertained as well with the stories from the guide.

Very impressive work has been completed by the volunteers.

Tony went on to explain a great deal about the fascinating history of the area, the people and the association of key figures in Liverpool who "worked" with Joseph Williamson. It's a great tour that takes you back in time to the 1800s. The artefacts are amazing that were found underground, from large bowls, to clay pipes and bone china cups. It really is worth a visit. You also go down to the water well area.

					I enjoyed an absolutely amazing time with my fellow walkers of the St Helens Group RA when we went on an guided tour of 'Williamson Tunnels' by the 'Friends Of Williamson Tunnels' on Sunday. It was very interesting, and I will definitely go again to see how much more the volunteers have uncovered as they continue with the exploration digging they're doing, and definitely recommend anyone to go and visit and witness the remarkable sites of both the Tunnels, and remains of the former Mansion House of Williamson themselves. :)

Our guide, Chris, took his time, answered every question, and made the labyrinth feel both mysterious and human. We spent about 2–2.5 hours below ground and didn’t feel bored for a second.

An impressive archaeological and architectural site created by unskilled workers using basic tunnelling/quarrying tools - they had no access to modern machinery. Enter a world of smallish tunnels and cathedral sized caverns. Our guides, Tony and Tom, are enthusiastic and are eager to impart as much of their knowledge to you as possible and are ably assisted by Laura in reception. Remember to give as generous a donation as possible to help them to continue with their work of excavating more areas of the site.

						This tour was a spectacular hidden gem of Liverpool. We had a tour with Phil, and he was an amazing guide. The tunnels were mind boggling. Everytime we entered  a new section, I was in more awe. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!!!
					
					This tour has to be experienced to be believed. The deepest and most original site of the Williamson excavations with the massive banqueting hall deep enough for a whole house in itself. The many of the knowledgeable volunteers have been there since the tunnels original rediscovery and they have worked constantly over 30 plus dedicated years to open more of the tunnels, bucket at a time due to limited space, a truly impressive achievement that is a fitting tribute  to the original works of the man himself. A unique experience of a unique part of Liverpool history. This should be visited by everyone, I know I will be back again.

					Visited the house site on a Heritage Open day. The main underground chamber on this site is impressive, the walk through ‘The Gash’ leading to the ‘Banqueting Hall’. Why only four stars? To be honest I expected more to be excavated than is actually the case because of the rave reviews, though the amount of Earth removed is no less impressive & the lack of progress isn’t the fault of the FoWT. Our great guide Mike was very knowledgeable and gave us the history not only of the tunnels origin but the rediscovery of them with first hand knowledge. All of the volunteers to were very kind and I am very thankful for their time and would highly recommend visiting the Williamson tunnels!
					
					It's a really interesting place to visit! The Williamson Tunnels are about a 30-minute walk from the centre of Liverpool, or you can easily get there by bus. 						This place is special and unique. Really good and run by volunteers who make it great.
					
					We had a lovely time at the tunnels today. Tom was very informative, friendly and encouraging to explore the little rooms there was.

We loved the items there were found in the rubble and the knowledge of how the stone at the bottom had been cut.

Definitely recommend. We plan to return with our 4 year old as, if they can adhere to the safety rules, it's something super cool for kids to see too! Especially as they get to wear a hi-vis jacket and hard hat.

He told us all about how the excavation of Williamson's Tunnels came about and there is clearly a team of very dedicated volunteers who have uncovered the unique history of the tunnels. The many fascinating artefacts were a highlight of the tour andthis is a must-do when in Liverpool.
					
					Excellent free tour and really interesting background as to why the tunnels are there given by Tom who is extremely knowledgeable and passionate. Bear in mind this is a different location and group to the heritage centre.

						We had a fantastic tour of the tunnels from Col and Pete, and would highly recommend this to anyone visiting Liverpool! They were very knowledgable and the history of the tunnels is fascinating (and mysterious). Looking forward to coming back in a few years as the excavations continue!

						Absolutely amazing. Been on my to do list for a very long time and finally got to visit yesterday.

						What a great way to spend an hour or so when visiting Liverpool! All the volunteers were very friendly and welcoming when I arrived. Due to the size of the groups, it's a really intimate experience that allows you to ask all the questions you can think of. My guide, Chris, was so helpful and knowledgeable about the tunnels.
