“The Rivington Reservoirs” by Derek Cartwright.
Our guest speaker on the night will be Derek Cartwright, who will talk about “The Rivington Reservoirs”.
Explore the Rivington reservoirs, many see the area today as a place of unmatched beauty teaming with wildlife in every season of the year. The Reservoirs however have a big story to tell, hear about the need for water in a growing northern town at the heart of the Industrial revolution, the engineers and engineering, the builders and what was there before the arrival of these immense bodies of water.
Derek Cartwright was born in Horwich (Bolton) in the Autumn of 1961. Following retirement from a career initially in engineers and then for 32 years in the Ambulance Service Derek has expanded his beekeeping hobby making it a small business (Horwich Honey), he enjoys hill walking and is Secretary of the Horwich Heritage Society. Along with two friends (Garry Rhodes and Dave Lane) in 2019 he published a popular local history book “The Winter Hill and Anglezarke Scrap Book” and in 2021 Derek published his second book ‘Lower Brazley Hall, the family, the hall the legacy’.
His commitment to the service both regional and Nationally was recognised in the New Year’s Honours list of 2015 when he received the Queen’s Ambulance Medal. He is a Serving Brother of St John and has a Master’s Degree in Business Administration (MBA). Derek is married, has four grown up children and five grandchildren, he still lives in Horwich…
