Our next FoWT monthly meeting will take place on Monday 6th November 2023 – 7.00 pm (19.00 hrs) via Zoom.

“The Early Neston Collieries: Seven Reasons Why They Were Remarkable”, by Dr. Anthony Annakin-Smith.

Our guest speaker on the night will be Dr. Anthony Annakin-Smith, who will talk about “The Early Neston Collieries: Seven Reasons Why They Were Remarkable”

Dr. Annakin-Smith is a well-known writer and speaker on Wirral’s history – particularly concerning Neston and Parkgate – basing his writing and talks on original research. His particular interests include maritime and industrial history and the evolution of the landscape.

He has written several books and articles including the very popular ‘Wirral Walks: 100 miles of the Best Walks in the Area’ and a book on the subject of tonight’s talk. He has been studying the early Neston collieries for many years, used them as the research topic for his PhD and has recently won a top award from the Association of Industrial Archaeology for his work on them.
