It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our good friend, Gordon Hunter, Trustee and Chairman. Gordon sadly passed away, surrounded by his family on 19th August 2023 following a short illness. The Trustees and volunteer’s send their thoughts and condolences to Maureen, his wife, children, grandchildren and all his family and friends at this very sad time.
Gordon was a well liked and respected member of the team, with his quick witted humour. He had been a supporter of the Friends of Williamson’s Tunnels for many years, becoming a Trustee of the Charity in 2005, then taking on the very important roll of Chairman.
We will always be eternally grateful for the time and skill that Gordon put in as chairman, conducting many years of negotiations in securing Land access, the rights for our volunteers to dig and explore, enabling the discovery of new Tunnels. Also, the lease of Joseph Williamson’s House site, Mason Street.
It was clear that Gordon was a family man, but he was also passionate about all that he did, not only for FoWT but also for the North West Training Council, where Gordon also held a position on the board.
Gordon will be greatly missed by all who knew and worked alongside him.
The funeral will take place at Springwood Crematorium at 10.00 am on Friday 8th September 2023, followed by a celebration of his life at Lee Hall Golf Club.
His family have extended the invitation to all that knew our friend and colleague, to come and say goodbye to this great man, giving him the send off that he deserves.
