“the history of the Queensway Mersey Tunnel – it’s conception, construction and what happens behind the scenes.”, by Alison Smith.
The next FoWT monthly meeting will be held on 9th January 2023. Our guest speaker on the night will be Alison Smith, who will talk about the history of the Queensway Mersey Tunnel – it’s conception, construction and what happens behind the scenes..
My job title is below and I initially started working for Mersey Tunnels in 2001. Through various restructures the Tunnels are now part of the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority and I work in the Ferries department of the Customer Delivery team. My background is in Tourism having managed a Tourist Information Centre in the Fens prior to moving to the Wirral. I suggested starting the Mersey Tunnel Tour on a more formal basis in 2006 and we initially launched one evening a week. It proved so popular that within a couple of years we had moved to 5 tours a week.
My talk will be on the history of the Queensway Mersey Tunnel – it’s conception, construction and what happens behind the scenes. Hopefully I will be able to share some of the construction photographs. I’m also hoping there will be lots of questions from the audience.
