“Wedlocked – Women know your place!” by Towse Harrison.
Our guest speaker on the night will be Towse Harrison, who will talk about “Wedlocked – Women know your place!”.
This talk explores attitudes towards women throughout history. We will look at how such attitudes became embedded, specifically in western society, and now have a global impact. Stories of women who, in the past and more recently, have used their wits, their courage, their humour, to survive and thrive in a world where men seem to hold all the power. If you thought that the fight for women’s equality was over and the Sex Discrimination Act of 1975 made it all fair, think again!
About the Harrisons
Graham, Towse and Bronwen of Sun Jester have over 25 years experience of delivering educational workshops and entertainments to the heritage sector. Over that time we have worked with many and varied organisations such as English Heritage, castles and prominent heritage sites, museums, art galleries, schools and The National Trust. All three have worked in the field of community arts for a number of years; more specifically, Graham and Towse have backgrounds in history and archaeology while Bronwen is a professional musician and vocalist.
Our work was originally targeted towards children and families (Graham and Towse ran a branch of The Young Archaeologists Club for many years). We were asked to develop a range of adult talks about six years ago and their popularity has grown exponentially.
