We were delighted to have a visit from an old friend and former Trustee, Jim Mather. Jim was a part of the FoWT team in those early and very exciting days when we first discovered Paddington back in 1999. Jim now works for Morgan Sindall, a large construction company, as Senior Site Manager at the Paddington Village development. Morgan Sindall have played a large part in the development in the local area and have been very Supportive and generous, supporting the Friends of Williamson’s Tunnels in many ways over the years.
Jim came to us with the amazing news that Morgan Sindall had a Haki Tower that was surplus to requirement in storage on their site, and offered to donate the Haki Tower to FoWT. Of course we are absolutely delighted and can’t thank Morgan Sindall enough for their donation and their continued support and generosity.
A few of our volunteers went to the site to collect the jigsaw puzzle that is the Haki tower in its unbuilt state. However one of the Morgan Sindall staff then offered to load the flatbed van and deliver it to Williamson’s house site for us. Amazingly, it would seem that this newly donated tower, being a 3 level structure, is identical to our original Haki staircase in Paddington.
The Original Paddington Haki staircase, an identical structure
Back in 2019, we needed a solution to getting down into the newly excavated, cathedral like chamber in Paddington. The solution was a Haki Tower which was generously funded by Subterranea Britannica, with additional support from George roberts, Morgan Sindall and Cheshire Scaffolds who supplied and fitted the staircase free of charge.
Our new staircase is an identical structure as this original Paddington structure. You can read the original post here, New Staircase into Paddington’s Level 4.
