FoWT were honoured to be represented at the Memorial Service of His Grace, the Duke of Westminster.

On Monday 25th November, Gordon our Chairman, was fortunate to be invited to represent the Friends of Williamson’s Tunnels at the Memorial Service of Major General Gerald Cavendish Grosvenor the 6th Duke of Westminster. It was an occasion to be remembered held in the beautiful Cathedral of Chester. It was attended by The Prince of Wales representing the queen and the Duke of Edinburgh and the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were also present. The many tributes payed to the duke was evidence of how well he was respected in his life from military service to the many charities where he was patron. Lady Edwina payed a moving tribute to her dad which showed that in spite of all of the responsibilities bestowed upon him he was still very much a family man.

Those of us who were fortunate to have met the Duke on his visit to Paddington last June found him to be a warm and enjoyable person to be with. He will be sadly missed by all.
