We have had many varied and interesting finds unearthed during our dig at Paddington and Williamson’s House site. If you take a look on our Artefacts page you can see a small selection of these finds.
This lovely clay pipe from Sligo was found in the Banqueting Hall. As you can see, it is almost complete which is wonderful. We have found many hundreds of pipes over the years, though not many have been found this complete.
Volunteer, Lynn is friends with Kieran Devaney from Sligo who has an interest in FoWT and the Williamson’s Tunnels. When the pipe came up, a picture of the Pipe was sent to Kieran who got very excited, so Kieran spoke with the Sligo Historical Society about it. They too got very excited, as they had never seen a clay pipe with the Sligo name on. The “Sligo Weekender” Newspaper asked for permission to run the story which they did, you can see the Newspaper page and their story below.
The Friends of Williamson’s Tunnels were delighted to be able to offer the ‘Brenan – Sligo’ pipe to the Sligo Historical Society, on a permanent loan basis. The pipe has now been sent to Sligo and will be put in a display case in the Hargadon Bros Pub, O’Connell Street, Sligo.
So if you are ever in Sligo, pop in to Hargadon Bros Pub for a Guinness and don’t forget to have a look around for this rare find from the Williamson’s Tunnels, Edge Hill, Liverpool.
